MSME Registration
Guide on MSME

Description

MSME stands for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, facilitating the development and promotion of enterprises through various benefits and schemes. Small enterprises play an essential role in improving the economy of any country. To encourage new and existing businesses, the Government of India has launched numerous programs to help small and medium-sized enterprises grow. To take advantage of these beneficial schemes, you need to obtain your MSME registration, also known as Udyam registration.

Eligibility for MSME Registration

  • Micro MSME Enterprises: An enterprise with an investment of less than INR 1 crore and an annual turnover of less than INR 5 crores.
  • Small MSME Enterprises: An enterprise with an investment of less than INR 10 crores and an annual turnover of less than INR 50 crores.
  • Medium MSME Enterprises: An enterprise with an investment of less than INR 20 crores and an annual turnover of less than INR 200 crores.

When to Register under MSME?

MSME registration is required if you want to avail benefits from the Central or State Government and the Banking Sector.

Who Monitors MSME Registration?

MSME registration is governed by the MSMED Act of 2006 in India under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.

How MSME Registration Helps My Business?

  1. Low-Interest Rate: All banks and financial institutions recognize MSMEs and have created special schemes for them, allowing MSMEs to benefit from lower interest rates on business loans.
  2. Relaxation in Trademark Government Fees: Government fees for trademarks are reduced for MSME-registered entities; small enterprises pay ₹4500, while other enterprises pay ₹9000.
  3. Credit Support Schemes: The Government of India runs several schemes to provide financial assistance to MSMEs.
  4. Tender Eligibility: There is a quota reserved for MSME-registered entities in government tender allotments.
  5. No Delayed Payment: Buyers must pay MSME entities within 45 days from the date of product or service delivery.
  6. Easy Loan in 59 Minutes: MSMEs with MSME registration and GST registration can receive loans of up to ₹5 crores within 59 minutes.

Special Reliefs for MSME Amid COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Government introduced the Atmanirbhar Bharat Relief Package, which includes:

  1. ₹3 lakh crores in collateral-free automatic loans for MSME businesses for four years.
  2. ₹20,000 crores in subordinate loans to MSMEs.
  3. ₹50,000 crores in equity infusion through the MSME Fund of Funds.

Difference between MSME Registration & Udhyam Registration

  1. Misconception: MSME registration and Udhyam registration are not two different registrations; MSME registration is regulated by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to protect MSME rights and ensure additional benefits compared to larger enterprises.
  2. Enhanced Version: Udhyam registration is a better version of MSME registration, launched with different eligibility criteria.
  3. Same Purpose: Both Udyam and MSME registrations aim to promote and develop MSME enterprises.
